Jamie Southern, All-American
Bulldog pitcher named to first team
Jamie Southern was announced as a First-Team All-American
Wednesday night at the Women's College World Series banquet in
Oklahoma City.
This accolade caps her 400-strikeout, 351.2-inning, 33-win,
3-no-hitter (including 2 perfect games), 0.44-ERA, .139-batting-average-against
rookie season.
Honors that Southern has earned during the 2002 season are:
Top ten finalist for USA Softball Player of the Year, NCAA All-West
Region First Team, NCAA No. IV All-Region Tournament Team, NFCA
Leadoff All-Tournament Team, Hedrick's Hallowell Classic All-Tournament
Team, two-time Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week, seven-time
WAC Pitcher of the Week, All-WAC First Team, WAC Scholar-Athlete,
WAC Pitcher of the Year, WAC Freshman of the Year, Preseason
All-WAC, Fresno State Scholar-Athlete.
Jamie is the 47th Bulldog All-American selection (21st to
the First Team).
