The Wolverines' ten-hit onslaught was led by freshman Tiffany
Haas (3-for-5, 5 RBI) and senior Melinda Moulden (3-for-4, HR).
The Bulldogs stranded 14 runners in the game while the Wolverines
left only five on in the 9-4 game. Key hits for Michigan were
a two-out, RBI single by Monica Schock to start the scoring in
the first; a two-run home run by Tiffany Haas in the second;
a bases-loaded-clearing double by Haas in the fourth; and a two-run
home run by Melinda Moulden in the seventh. All in all, Bulldog
pitchers Lori Hoffman, Amanda Wolf, and Leslie Poole were roughed
up for nine earned runs on ten hits, walking five and striking
out two.
The Bulldog scoring took place in the first and sixth innings.
A single by Christina Clark and RBI double by Jamie Southern
in the first tied things at one apiece after one inning. In the
sixth, Michigan sent in pitcher Jennie Ritter to finish the game.
The freshman, in her collegiate debut, gave up three runs on
one hit in the sixth, hitting three batters, walking two, and
throwing one wild pitch.

Kansas also took a one-run lead over Fresno State in their
top of the first, but that run, on a home run to right-center
by Destin Frankenstein, held up all the way for a 1-0 Jayhawk
win. Fresno State's Jamie Southern struck out 13 and only allowed
one other hit, but Kansas pitcher Kara Pierce shut out Fresno
State on a two-hitter for the victory.
