Bulldogs Blank Lady Techsters Twice
Christina Clark slams in mercy-rule game one, Jamie Southern deals two shutouts

The Bulldogs swept the Lady Techsters 9-0, 2-0 Thursday night at the Diamond, on a May evening that provided a variety of weather. The start of the first game was delayed until 6:15 by a rain shower between 5 and 5:30 pm. It was sunny for most of game one. Game two started out with pleasant enough conditions, but the winds suddenly kicked up during the second inning, and a brief heavy shower stopped play for 13 minutes. The temperature dropped, and the winds blew for the rest of the game.

Jamie Southern pitched both ends of the doubleheader, throwing her 13th and 14th shutouts of the season, and improving her record to 21-10. Game one was a two-hitter for Southern. Only one Lady Techster reached third base, in the fifth inning, via two walks and a hit batter. In game two, the Lady Techsters only had one baserunner, on a single in the first inning. Six Lady Techsters struck out in game one, eight in game two.

Fresno State mercied Louisiana Tech in game one, 9-0 in five innings. Five unearned runs scored in the second inning, on two Bulldog hits, two walks, and two LT errors. Three of the runs scored when Lori Hoffman cleared loaded bases with a two-out single. The bases-loaded situation was set up by Louisiana Tech. When there were two on and two out, Christina Clark was intentionally walked. Angelina Diaz then walked on a 3-2 count to force in the first run. Then came Hoffman's 3 RBI single. Hoffman scored when Jamie Southern's fly ball to deep left-center was dropped by center fielder Amber Miles.

Christina Clark made the score 9-0 in the third with a grand slam, her first. There was no doubt off the bat that the ball was leaving the yard. It landed half-way up bleacher section 1 in left field.

In game two, Jamie Southern gave herself a 1-0 lead with her sixth home run of the year in the fourth inning, a solo round-tripper. The hit was a line drive that hit the first row of outfield bleacher section 1.

The Bulldogs added their second run in the fifth inning, when Clark scored on a single by Hoffman.

Fresno State had seven hits in each game Thursday night, Lori Hoffman and Christina
Clark each had four RBI on the evening.

Next: The Bulldogs conclude the regular season at Bulldog Diamond against WAC opponent Tulsa Saturday at 1:00 pm.
