Fresno State Softball Hosts Rachael Donaldson Walk-a-Thon and Alumnae Game

FRESNO, Calif. –The Fresno State Athletics Department and the Bulldog softball program will conduct a walk-a-thon for junior left fielder Rachael Donaldson (Murrieta, Calif.) on Sat., Oct. 29, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., at Fresno State’s Warmerdam Field.

Diagnosed with stage 4 soft tissue sarcoma in September, Donaldson will be redshirting the upcoming season. To assist with the offset of incurred costs a trust fund has been set up for Donaldson as her personal mantra continues to be "Meet It and Beat It."

In addition, Fresno State will host an alumnae game on Saturday, 1:00 p.m., at Bulldog Diamond with a barbeque to follow. While admission is free, donations will be accepted as the proceeds from the alumnae game will be given to the San Francisco Giants “Strike Out Cancer” fund in memory of former Bulldog All-America pitcher Lori Romeiro-Gardner.

Fans will be able to see some of their former Bulldog All-Americans, 1998 National Championship team members and USA National Team players take the field once again. Those who are attending include Michelle Bolt (DP/C, 1991-94), Barbara Cambria (RHP, 1982-85), Alicia Dowland (SS, 1998-2001), Lindsay Fossatti (3B, 1999-2002), Rosie Garcia (RHP, 1978-80), Denise Ketchum (C, 1980-83), RaeAnn Pifferini (OF, 1988-91), Renee Polanco (IF/OF, 1981-84), Jamie Southern (RHP/UT, 2002-05), Shelly Stokes (C, 1987-90), Gena Strang (1B, 1985-88), Shell Voorhees (C, 1982-85) and Becky Witt (OF, 1998-2001).

“There has been a lot of caring shown towards Rachael and that means the world to someone who is fighting to recover from a set back," Fresno State softball head coach Margie Wright said. "I really hope that there will be a tremendous show of individuals from the community this weekend for a common fight that affects all of us in one way or another.
