2009 NCAA Regional #2, at UCLA:
Sunday, Game 6: UCLA 12, Fresno State 2
-The Bruins shell Morgan Melloh, scoring eight runs on seven hits, including three home runs and hitting for the cycle in the second before chasing her and bringing on Makenzie Oakes with two out in the second.
-After UCLA took a 1-0 lead on a solo HR by Andrea Harrison, Fresno State ralled and temporarily took the lead in the bottom of the first with a two-RBI double by Michelle Moses driving in the Haleys and an RBI single by Lima Coronado driving in Moses.
-Fresno State kept the pressure on Bruin starter Donna Kerr while Mackenzie Oakes held UCLA in check, allowing only one run over 5-1/3 innings. Fresno State added single runs in the fourth and fifth, and unearned run driven in by Haley Perkins in the fourth, and a solo HR by Nicole Angene in the fifth, her fourth of the year.
-UCLA will host Missouri in the Superregionals.

-Michelle Moses hit her 10th HR of the season, a grand slam in the second inning. It's her first GS, and the fourth hit by Fresno State this season.
-Haley Perkins gets her first hits of the regional, going 4-for-5, scoring two runs and driving in four with two doubles.
-Haley Gilleland scores three times, including a steal of home on the throw back to the pitcher from the catcher after tripling in the fourth inning.
-Every Bulldog starter except Coronado had at least one hit.
-Morgan Melloh continues her excellent pitching with a five-hitter, striking out ten. It's her 25th 10+ K game of the season. She threw her 900th career K in the fifth inning.
Saturday, Game 4: Long Beach St. 3, UNLV 1 (13 inn.)
-An epic 3:57 battle between the 49ers and Rebels ends in the 13th with a walk-off HR by Danielle Linke.
-The two teams combined for 27 runners left on base.

-Bruin starter Megan Langenfeld earns her second win of the tournament, doing it in the pitcher's circle and the batter's box. Pitching, she gave up three hits, all when the Bulldogs got their two runs (one earned), in the third. As a batter, she hit a two-run HR in the first inning and had a bunt single in the sixth to start that two-run rally.
-Morgan Melloh pitched well in the loss, striking out eight and giving up five hits.
-Caitlin Stiglich had two great battles with Langenfeld, a 16-pitch at- bat in the second inning in which she earned a walk, and an 18-pitch at-bat in the third inning, resulting in a line drive that was speared at second on an outstanding diving play by Amanda Kamekona.
Friday, Game 2: UCLA 4, Long Beach State 2
-Bruin starter Megan Langenfeld gets the win on a six-hitter, striking out seven, and driving in the go-ahead run with a double in the fifth inning.
-Bruin 3B Julie Burney is 2-for-3 with a solo HR in the sixth inning

-Morgan Melloh wins all three tournament games and cements her MVP status. She strikes out six, walks three and hits four batters. Neveda doesn't get a hit until an RBI triple by Sarah Hunt in the fourth inning with two out.
-In the eighth inning, after Lisamarie Coronado walks, Nicole Angene singles, and Brooke Phipps moved them to second and third with a comebacker, Haley Perkins is intentionally walked to bring up Haley Gilleland. The Bulldog shortstop takes two balls and singles to left for the two-out walk-off. -Angene was 2-for-4 with a double. -Nevada's starting pitcher Katie Holverson goes 3-1/3 innings after giving up the first two Bulldog runs in the fourth on doubles by Angene, Phipps, and a single by Gilleland. Mallary Darby finishes the game in the cirlce for the Wolfpack. Friday:

-Aided by a disputed no-swing call in extra innings, Nevada's Danielle Patrick scores on an infield single by Brittany Puzey. Game 10, Nevada 4, Hawaii 2 (10 inn.)
-Nevada's Danielle Patrick keeps tha Wolfpack in it by coming up with a one-out triple into the right-field corner, she's driven in by Noelle Micka.
-Jessica Haight of the Wolfpack doubles in the winning runs in the tenth.
Game 9, Fresno State 5, La Tech 0 gametracker
-Morgan Melloh strikes out 11 and give up three hits. She threw her 400th K of the season in the 4th inning, becoming the 3rd Bulldog to reach that many, and the only pitcher who's done it twice.
-Lisamarie Coronado is 3-for-4 with a double
- Haley Gilleland is 2-for-3 with a double, stolen base, and was hit by a pitch.
Thursday:
Game 8: Nevada 4, NMSU 1 (NMSU eliminated)
-Katie Holverson gets the win, going 5+ innings, striking out seven. Only one unearned run is scored against her. Mallary Darby come on in the fifth and gets her first save.
Game 7: UH 10, BSU 2 (5inn., Boise St. eliminated)
-Hawai'i's Stephanie Ricketts improves to 22-10
-Three Bronco pitchers can't contain the Rainbow Wahine offense as they have 13 hits, six of them extra-base hits, in the win. Leadoff hitter Tanisha Milca is 3-for-3 with a HR and 3 RBI, and the 2-3-4 hitters for Hawaii (Clare Warwick, Makani Duhaylonsod, and Amanda Taualii) each have two hits.
Game 6: NMSU 6, SJSU 1 (SJSU eliminated)

-NMSU's Kim Watson improves to 21-13 with a 5-hitter, only one unearned run is scored off of her.
-Aggie Hoku Nohara is 4-for-4 with three RBI

The sophomore goes 9-for-13, leading the Bulldogs v. Broncos with two HRs and seven RBI. She improved her BA by 71 points.

Bulldogs Hold Off Broncos in Boise [April 24]

-The nightcap was another high-scoring affair, with extra innings this time.
-Morgan Melloh took the start, striking out four and walking one. She's tagged for eight runs (six earned) on thirteen hits in 6-1/3 innings, but gets no decision.
-Mackenzie Oakes gets her second win of the day, now 8-1, in the relief role.
-The scoring onslaught in Boise continues in the first inning, as Haley P doubles and Michelle Moses homers for a 2-0 Bulldog lead. It's Michelle's eighth HR.
-Boise State came back with one in the bottom of the first on a double and single, and Fresno State regained a 2-run lead with an unearned run in the top of the second.
-The Bulldogs added four unearned runs in the third inning in an inning capped by a Lima Coronado double and Michelle Moses home run.
-Boise State bounced back with single runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings to close within four runs heading into the bottom of the seventh.
-The Broncos tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the seventh, chasing Melloh from the circle and bringing in Mackenzie Oakes.
-Ryane Petersen homered in the top of the eighth to put the Bulldogs ahead 9-8.   It was her third of the season, but Fresno State wasn't done yet, as they rallied for two more runs to make it 11-8.
-The Bulldog hitters pound out 18 hits, led by Michelle Moses, who is 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored. Haley Gilleland is the only Bulldog starter without a hit (0-for-6).
- In the series, Brooke Phipps goes 9-for-13 (.692), with 2 HR, 7 RBI, and 4 R.

-It was a see-saw game with three lead changes after the Broncos got out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning.
-First inning: Morgan Melloh only went 1/3 of an inning in her shortest start ever in a Bulldog uniform, giving up 4 runs (3 ER). Mackenzie Oakes comes on in relief and yields a HR to the first batter she faces, but retires the next two to end the inning. BS 5, FS 0.
-Second inning: Ryane Petersen answers back leading off the second inning with her second HR of the season. BS 4, FS 1.
-Third inning: The Bulldogs stared to climb back into the game in the third inning with singles from Brooke Phipps and Haley Perkins followed by a 2-RBI triple from Haley Gilleland. BS 5, FS 3.
-Fourth inning: Brooke Phipps hits a home run after walks to Lisamarie Coronado and Nicole Angene. FS 6, BS 5.
-Boise State then takes the lead back with a 2-run HR in the bottom of the fourth inning. BS 7, FS 6.
-Fifth inning: Fresno State answers right back in on a Haley G walk, Caitlin Stiglich infield single, and a Michelle Moses RBI single. After a pitching change, The Bulldogs continued to rally for two more runs driven in by Nicole Angene and Brooke Phipps. FS 10, BS 7.
-Seventh inning: Boise State closes the gap with their fourth HR of the game, the second off the bat of Ashleigh Viers-Gordillo. Morgan Melloh re-enters the game with two outs, walks a batter, then strikes out the next on a 3-2 count to get her 2nd save of the season.
-Every Bulldog starter except Angene had at least one hit, Brooke Phipps was 3-for-4 with 5 RBI.
-Mackenzie Oakes's record goes to 7-1. She walks 2 and strikes out 6 while giving up 5 runs and seven hits.

-Morgan Melloh allows one run on three hits in the second inning. That was the only earned run she allowed. On the day, she struck out six and walked two. Boise State added two unearned runs in the seventh inning and brought the potential tying run to the plate before the game ended on a lineout to Angene at third.
-Haley Perkins and Caitlin Stiglich drive in runs in the third inning with doubles. Haley P scored late in the inning on a passed ball to make it 3-1 Bulldogs.
-Haley P got her second RBI of the day in the fourth inning, driving in Coronado. Fresno State got another run in that inning when Mallory Perkins scored on an error by the SS.
-Brooke Phipps made it 6-1 Bulldog with her second home run of the year to lead off the sixth inning.
-Bulldogs pound out 14 hits. Every starter except Alexis Lujan had at least one hit. Haley P, Haley G, Michelle Moses, Lima Coronado, Nicole Angene, and Brooke Phipps had 2 hits apiece.

Bulldogs Face Wolfpack in WAC Leaders Showdown, Nevada Salvages Final Game to Remain in 1st in WAC [April 17-18]

-Nevada rebounds and returns to the head of the WAC standings with a win in the series finale. In the standings, Fresno State and Hawaii are tied at 10-5 in conference play in second place, 1/2 game behind Nevada. Nevada is 10-4, having one weather-cancelled game against NMSU. Whether a makeup will be played has not been announced.
-Michelle Moses gets the Bulldogs off to a 1-0 lead in the first inning with her team-leading seventh home run of the year.
-Morgan Melloh starts, but can't hold Wolfpack in check as they score single runs off her in the second and fourth innings. She'd held Nevada scoreless for 18.1 straight innings this weekend. Mackenzie Oakes relieves Morgan in the fifth inning, and yields two runs in the seventh.
-Nevada's Holverson hold the Bulldogs to five hits and improves to 19-7.

-Melloh gets her 800th career K in the fourth inning, the third Bulldog to do so.

Fresno State Goes 2-1 in Ruston [April 10-11]

-The Bulldogs are unable to solve Lady Techster pitcher Wanda Malone, who two-hits them through 10 innings as she ges her first win of the season against two losses.
-Two singles by Haley Gilleland were the only FS hits.
-Mackenzie Oakes pitches 5-1/3 scoreless innings to start the game: 5H, 5BB, 2K.
-Morgan Melloh takes the loss, yielding a solo homerun to Kylie Basset with two outs in the bottom of the tenth. That run breaks a 27-innings without an earned run streak by the Bulldog hurler. Her line: 5.1IP, 4H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 6K.
-Louisiana Tech has gone 2-1 in their WAC series against Nevada, Hawaii, and Fresno State this year.

-The Bulldogs were held to one hit by Lady Techster pitcher Meghan Krieg until two out in the fifth inning. Lima Coronado started the two-out rally with a walk. She was replaced by Jody Badorine, who stole second, then scored on a flair single to center by Haley Perkins.
-Brooke Phipps made it 2-0 with two out in the seventh inning with her first home run as a Bulldog. After walks to the Haleys, Caitlyn Stiglich singled to center to score Haley P, for a 3-0 Bulldog lead.
-Morgan Melloh gets her 20th win of the season on her 11th shutout. She struck out 13 and walked five in the six-hitter. This was her 20th game with ten or more strikeouts this season, 41st of her career.

-Bulldogs score first in the third inning on three consecutive singles by the top of the order--Haley Perkins, Haley Gilleland, and Caitlin Stiglich.  
-Fresno State extends the lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning on doubles by Haley Perkins and Alexis Lujan followed by a homerun by Michelle Moses (her team-leading 6th of the season).
-Ryane Petersen goes deep to lead off the sixth inning, her first career HR. After that, Brooke Phipps and Haley P reach base on singles, then Haley G drives them both in with a single to right-center for a 7-0 Bulldog lead.
-Haley Perkins goes 3-for-3 in the game, scoring three runs. She now has 260 career hits, passing Amanda Scott (257) on the Bulldog career hits list.   Up next: Nina Lindenberg (269).
-Morgan Melloh strikes out 12, for a career total of 774, passing Robin Mackin (771) on the Bulldog and WAC career K lists, into 3rd and 5th, respectively.

Fresno State Splits with UCSB at Bulldog Diamond [April 6]

-Morgan Melloh gets the start again and takes another tough-luck loss on an unearned run as the Bulldogs are shut out for the 9th time this season. Her record is 18-12. With 12 Ks in the game, she reaches 308 in the season, passing Jamie Southern's 299 Ks in 2004 into 7th place on that list. This is her 18th 10+ K game of the season, her Ks per 7IP is 10.2. (The Bulldog season record is 10.3, by Robin Mackin in 2006.) Her career strikeout total is now 762, 9 behind Mackin at #3 on the all-time list.
-The only Buldog hits off the Gauchos' Krista Cobb (12-5) are singles by Haley Perkins and Caitlin Stiglich. Haley P's single is the 257th of her career, tying her with Amanda Scott for 7th place (Next: Nina Lindenberg at 269).
-The Gauchos' lone run came in the fifth inning on an error by SS Haley Gilleland off the bat of UCSB's Christine Ramos, scoring Katie McWhirter.

Fresno State Faces Hawaii in WAC Showdown at the Diamond and Drop 2 of 3 [April 3-4]

-Ryane Petersen starts the game, her first pitching appearance of the season, but only goes 1-1/3 innings, giving up two runs. Morgan Melloh finishes the game, striking out 8. In her 3 appearances in this series, she's 1-1 with 33Ks over 26-1/3 innings.
-The sole Bulldog run came on a home run by Alexis Lujan leading off the sixth inning, her second of the year.
-Jody Badorine got the start in left, going 2-for-3.
Rainbow Wahine pitcher Stephanie Ricketts put in her time in the circle in this series, she had all 3 decisions (2-1) in her 26 innings.

-Morgan Melloh comes on in relief of Mackenzie Oakes in the third inning and sets down the next 26 batters in a row. In the game, a perfect game within the game. She struck out a career-high 20, in 13-2/3 innings of work.
-Every Bulldog starter has at least one hit, Michelle Moses has a homerun and a double, Brooke Phipps has a single and double, and Alexis Lujan and Haley Gilleland have two singles each.
-With the game tied at 2-2 in the twelfth inning, Hawai'i rallies for two unearned runs in the top of the inning, but the Bulldogs battle back with two in the bottom of the frame with RBI singles from Haley Perkins and Caitlin Stiglich.
-Hawai'i pitcher Stephanie Ricketts gets the win, coming on in relief in the third inning.
-In the sixteenth, Kanani Pu'u-Warren seals the Rainbow Wahine win with a monster home run to right-center with two runners on.

-Bulldogs' Haley Gilleland drives in winning runs in the bottom of the seventh with a 2-RBI single to left field. The winning two-out hit was set up by a lead off walk to Ryane Petersen, pinchhitter Alexis Lujan being hit by a pitch in on her hands, and a wild pitch by Hawaii's Stephanie Ricketts. It was pinch runner Jody Badorine and Mallory Perkins who came in on Haley G's hit. The throw on the play on the trailing runner Perkins wasn't corralled by catcher Katie Grimes in time.
-Hawaii scored its only run in the sixth inning due to an errant throw by Gilleland.
-Haley G was 2-for-4 in the game. Other Bulldog hits were singles by Haley P, Caitlin Stiglich, Michelle Moses, and Lisamarie Coronado.
- Morgan Melloh continues to pitch well, her second straight 15-K game (season highs). She reached 700 Ks for her Bulldog career in the second inning. Morgan yielded one unearned run, four hits, and two walks.
-It was Cancer Awareness Night, with former Bulldog outfielder and cancer survivor Rachel Donaldson throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.

Bulldogs Go Up 99 for Makeup Game in Stockton [March 31]

-Bulldogs score first with an unearned run in the second inning via a Nicole Angene leadoff walk, Brooke Phipps sacrifice, a wild pitch by UOP's Gabby McDaniel. McDaniel then couldn't field a comebacker off the bat of Mallory Perkins with two out, letting Nicole score.
-Both teams are hitless until the top of the fifth inning when Lisamarie Coronado singles to left. Lima's single drives in pinchrunner Kaylan Pollard with the second run of the game.
-Moses droves in the third run of the game with a single to center in the sixth, scoring Haley Gilleland, who had reached base on a two-out error.
-Morgan Melloh allows three baserunners on two walks and a single en route to her 4th one-hitter of the season, yielding the safety with two outs in the seventh.
-Morgan has 15 strikeouts, a season high. Career-wise, she has 697, passing Wende Ward (1980-83, 691 Ks) into fourth place on the Bulldog career list in the fifth inning.
-Haley Gilleland ties Martha Nofsinger on the career stolen base list with her 32nd in the third inning.

-But, then Bulldogs rally in the bottom of the eighth. After loading the bases with one out, Caitlin Stiglich gets hit by a pitch to force in the tying run. Michelle Moses follows with her second hit of a night, an RBI single to center to end it and cue up Tina Turner.
-Morgan Melloh picks up 2nd win of night in relief after Mackenzie Oakes pitches 7-1/3 innings, yielding one run, five hits, no walks, and getting one strike out.
-Aggie pitcher Alex Holmes goes eight inning, limits Bulldogs to seven hits and one walk, striking out three.

-Bulldogs pull off a wild two-outs-in the-bottom-of-the seventh-inning win. With runners at second and third and a one-run deficit, an apparent game-ending out on a fielder's choice from batter Haley Perkins is negated by an illegal pitch call on Cal pitcher Valerie Arioto. The result of that is one run in and a runner on third, and a 3-2 count on Perkins. Perkins drives the next pitch over the right fielder for the walk-off hit. Cal starting pitcher Marissa Drewrey takes the loss and falls to 10-4.
-Fresno State's pitcher Morgan Melloh improves her record to 7-6 with a 2 ER, 6 hits, 5 BB and 8 K performance.
