Head softball coach Margie Wright announced the departure of Jody Badorine
and Morgan Melloh from the program. Both student-athletes have decided to
pursue other options and will not return for the 2011 season.
Badorine, (Madera, Calif.) a sophomore on this year's team, played outfield
and pinch ran for Coach Wright in her two seasons. Badorine played in 78
games at Fresno State. She has decided to leave Fresno and the sport of
softball for personal reasons.
"Jody informed us midway through the season that she won't be back next
year," Wright said. "Jody stated that her plans were to leave Fresno and
softball to pursue a career in working in her family business. We wish her
the best."
Melloh has decided to return home to finish her education and softball
career near her family after three years at Fresno State. Under Wright's
guidance, Melloh, a junior left-handed pitcher from Fishers, Ind., became a
freshman All-American in 2008. She was named the WAC Freshman and Pitcher of
the Year that season and has earned All-WAC honors the past two seasons as
well. She leaves Fresno State ranked in the top 10 in single-season and
career records in nearly every pitching category, breaking numerous records.
"Morgan decided to go home and not finish her last year here," Wright said. "Fresno State did everything to help her grow as a student-athlete and to
get a degree. It is unfortunate that she wants to go home and finish her
collegiate career there. She is a great young woman and I wish her the
best."
"I wanted to thank Coach Wright and Fresno State for giving me the
opportunity to play college softball and further my education," Melloh said.
"I also want to thank the fans for everything they have done. I really
appreciate everything that I had while I was at Fresno State. I have decided
to leave for family reasons. I want my family to see me play my last year
and be closer to home to finish my education."
There will be no further comments from Coach Wright, Badorine or Melloh.
